Resources for your Home Garden

Does a visit to Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens inspire you to include more local native plants in your home garden?
The Friends hope so, and on this page we’ve collated some resources to help you.

Books

Our Reading Room (in the Arts & Ecology Centre) has a very extensive library of books and other material on the indigenous flora and fauna of our region. Members of the public are welcome to browse through the library, but take-away loans of materials is only available to members of the Friends of MRBBG. Another great reason to join us!

Brochures & Pamphlets

‘Our Locals are Beauties’

  • Published by the Sunshine Coast Council in two editions, one for coastal areas, the other for hinterland areas.
  • Very popular, but hard to find in hard copies, so best to download them. Full of information about many suitable indigenous species as well as advice about some species that have become pests on the Sunshine Coast. (Click on the PDF icon if you would like a preview before you download).
  • Copies also included on the detailed and informative ‘Pest Management and Awareness Kit’ DVD published by Sunshine Coast Council.

Sunshine Coast Community Native Nurseries

The Friends have used these suppliers a number of times and have discovered they stock a wide range of native species, although not all are locally indigenous. Visit their websites for their extensive stocklists, prices and more details.

We have found these nurseries have great advice about growing natives in your home garden.
