My last few weeks have been spent in the Garden. My own backyard garden that is. I do miss spending time with you all at THE Gardens (and going to yoga) but it's been good to have more time to get into some projects we've been wanting to do in our own backyard. Chris and I have been regenerating our gully over the last several years. It covers about an acre which provides more than enough challenge and entertainment for us. We love it. A month ago we put down a bore so we're very excited about the prospect of creating some ferny wet areas.
Our biggest drama has been trying to trap a possum! We discovered one snuggling in one of our large staghorns a couple of weeks ago when it hissed at me as I passed by. Unfortunately, when it popped its head up, we could see that it had a horrific case of Exudative Dermatitis (a common, terrible disease that brushtail possums get). Our possum disappeared before we could get someone from the wildlife hospital to rescue it. So, we've been trying to trap it to get it some help and prevent the disease spreading. To date, we've had 5 successful trappings BUT we've only caught other healthy looking possums who were pretty pissed off about the situation they'd found themselves in when just going about their nightly business of searching for a delicious treat. After a10 night effort with disrupted sleep, we've decided to give up traumatising our possum population (and me) and return the trap. We'll keep a look out for our poor little poss and get him some help when we can.
This is one of our healthy little cuties enjoying a conciliatory slice of apple after being released.
Back to the garden for me now. Take care everyone.
