The attached 'A Mountain in Mons' came about when the newly formed 'Subtropical Garden Club' called for Virtual Garden Tours in place of a meeting. There's a bit of a story regarding this new Club and it involves the Friends. Some of you may be aware of The International Tropical Foliage and Garden Society Inc (ITFGS) - it was responsible for the fantastic display each year at the Nambour Garden Expo, opposite ours. It was based in Bundaberg, but there were more members on the Sunshine Coast - a bit like the tail wagging the dog. Eventually the dog became so small that the tail came to the conclusion it should be put down (end of canine allusions). Winding up an Incorporated Association, such as the Friends, is a messy business. One of the requirements is that any surplus funds be donated to an Incorporated Association or charity having similar objectives. End result: a donation of $142.81 to the Friends, the end of ITFGS and the creation of the Subtropical Garden Club Inc, based on the Sunshine Coast.

One of the prime movers for the new club, Deb Wagner (also a Friend), suggested that our gardens would be looking immaculate with all the extra time on our hands and invited members to show what they'd achieved, hence 'A Mountain in Mons' .
