Hi all - my first day where I intend being vertical for most of it. About 12 days ago I had surgery to repair an aneurysm somewhere behind my belly button. Normally your aorta in this area is about 20 - 25mm in diameter around there, but mine had been slowly expanding (over years) until about a month ago when it reached 63mm. At that point my surgeon advised that I needed a repair job (to avoid the possibility of a very messy rupture). About 10 years ago, I had another aortic aneurysm nearby, which was successfully repaired.
Thank you all my Friends for your kind words and thoughts. I am currently sitting in front of my laptop and typing - first time in ten days – although Dot did show me emails and responses that came in during that time (and speaking of emails – only reading a few at a time over the last week so I have been repeatedly deleting my way though over 200 this morning. Glad they were mostly junk!)
Dot made coffee and scones for smoko at home this morning, and used the 3 ingredient scone recipe we read about last week. And they were delicious! We had them with some cherry jam (the only red jam in the cupboard.) Dot cut all the ingredients in half to make just a few, but it was so easy. I think a full batch is on order for tomorrow. And a double or quadruple lot for our first smoko back in the gardens – not too many months away I hope! The half lot made 12 or 13 scones, so I would expect a full lot would make up to 30. Cheers to all, and thanks to Kerry and Everard for setting up this bulletin/blog venue on our website. Great idea in these difficult times. Tony
Muriel's scone recipe:
1.Before you start, set your oven to 220 degrees
2.Measure out five cups of self-raising flour, then sift three times
3.Add a pinch of salt as you sift the flour
4.Fold in 300ml of cold cream
5.Add 300ml of lemonade
6.Keep folding the mixture together until the flour is all mixed in
7.Put onto a floured board, cut into desired sizes and brush with milk
8.Pop them into the oven for ten minutes or until golden brown, turning the tray once during cooking
9.Enjoy with butter, jam, cream, or whatever you like!
