The Creek Walk |
|
|
![]() The Creek Walk is still being developed, but is now open to the public. The walking track is found in the western area of the gardens and is best accessed by walking down through the car parking area and crossing over to the western side of the entrance road. If combined with a wander through the Ephemeral Wetland the walk is nearly 2 kilometres in length. If walking anticlockwise, firstly the track ambles along the southern bank of the upper reaches of Mountain Creek, through acres of tall Picobeen Palms, Cabbage Tree Palms, Flooded Gums and and other flora at home in the rich, moist creekside soils. Eventually the track climbs the ridge line away from the creek, passing through drier forest dominated by tall eucalypts (Blackbutt, Tallowwood and Brown Bloodwood), a very different environment. The walk back down to the car parks and visitor facilities continues through the drier forest At present the track is fully accessible for people with a reasonable level of fitness. It does involve rough steps, and an uphill walk over several hundred metres, which may not be appropriate for the elderly or very young, or for strollers and wheelchairs. The track becomes slippery after rain, so caution is required. After heavy rain the creek may flood very suddenly and the area should be avoided. |
